    In order to get to an air bubble, you have to first get past the smooth exterior. Your saliva can do that because it had enzymes to start breaking down food. Seminal fluid does not.

    Put that thing in a glass of pure water and I'm sure it will dissolve easily enough without any enzymes. Sugar is plenty soluble in water, and to my knowledge you don't really coat candy canes with anything in particular. Anyway, there's clearly saliva involved here too.
