...and Vince Young winds up entering the draft do you:

  • Take Vince Young #1 overall?
  • Take Reggie Bush #1 overall?
  • Take Matt Lienhart #1 overall?
  • trade down the pick for something else? Also, define what something else is...

I think I'd go with selling out every seat in the house, and take Vince Young... David Carr's probably very nervous at home thinking long and hard about what might be next season....

The problem with the Texans taking a QB like Young or Leinart is they already have a ton of money wrapped up in Carr. Domanick Davis has shown that he is a capable NFL back, so I think the best thing for them to do would be to trade down to be able to get help on the offensive line and also try to get a wide receiver to complement Andre Johnson.

Reggie Bush and trade their RB for a good draft pick or QB.
Reggie can make things happen almost instantly, he's a merchandise bomb ticking away! He's like Vick when he got drafted, his jerseys got sold out before he even played a single game. Same will apply to Reggie, Cause IMO, he's already gained Legendary status and will be an instant impact financially and on the field.

Take Reggie Bush Because they already have a decent QB in David Carr. They should trade Dominick Davis for a WR or some1 on Defense

^true... but the same can be said for Vince... Vince is a Houston grown Texan. The fanbase would buy into him as much as reggie bush...

As for Carr's contract... that makes takin Vince a bit dicey... I wonder if there's a team who would trade for Carr with the texans...

Trade down

Until you can keep a quarterback from getting massacred in the backfield You Might as well not take one. You wouldn't want to destroy his confidence and career right after it begins. Plus they need more than one person to fix what is wrong with them.

David Carr is a quality quaterback. As long as your offensive line is giving up 60 sacks a season, it won't matter who they put back there anyway.

They should use this pick to stockpile future draft picks. Trade down for a number one pick this year and some 1 and 2's next year.

Vince Young, that would make more sense to me... but hey, i'm a hockey guy, so i'm probably wrong on that one too !! :D

As much as I would hate to pass on Reggie Bush, the Texans need so much help everywhere that I would have to listen to offers to trade down. It's no secret that the Jets would love to have Reggie Bush but, drafting 4th, they won't get him. I would leverage that and ask for the Jets 1st pick in the 2006 draft, their 2nd pick in the 2006 draft and their first pick in the 2007 draft. If they wouldn't give in on that, perhaps a 3rd round pick in the 2006 draft along with their 1st pick in the 2007 draft would be negotiable. If the Jets would go for that, I'd swap places with them and take D'Brickashaw Ferguson (what a name) with the 4th pick in the 2006 draft to bolster their pathetic offensive line and try to get another O-lineman, a solid inside linebacker, a passrushing DE and a wide receiver with their picks in the 2nd and 3rd round. They'd have 2 picks each in the 2nd and 3rd round of the 2006 draft if the Jets go for the deal, so I would take Andrew Whitworth (OT - LSU) with the first 2nd round pick and Darryl Tapp (DE - Virginia Tech) with the second 2nd round pick (assuming they are still on the board). This would give the Texans a terrific pair of bookend tackles that would allow Chester Pitts to return to OG. With tho O-line addressed, with the first pick in the 3rd round, I would take either Martin Nance (WR - Miami/Ohio) or Jonathan Orr (WR - Wisconsin) and either D'Qwell Jackson (ILB - Maryland) or Justin London (ILB - UCLA) with the second 3rd round pick, again assuming they are available.

I'd spend the rest of the draft looking for more depth on the D-line, secondary ,O-line and LB.

Again, I hate to pass on Reggie but a deal like this could do for the Texans what the Herschel Walker deal did for Dallas back when Jimmy Johnson became their coach.

Oh....one possible revision. If David Thomas (TE - Texas) is available in the 3rd round, 2nd pick, I'd snap him up in a heartbeat. Pass-catching tight ends are once again in vogue and the Texans don't have one.

You can always look for an ILB in round 4.

take bush....

gauranteed points in a running back.

a quarter back can have few good recievers meaning fewer points. bush is the safe pick.

Trade down and get some O-Line help... winning football games begins at the line of scrimmage wheather it is offense or defense.

Young is now officially in the draft.

If I was Houston, I would trade the pick to someone who REALLY wants either Bush or Young. Like it has been said, the Texans need O-Line help more than anything. You add more talent to QB or RB, is all well and good, but if they can't be protected by the O-Line, then that talent is wasted. Even the guarenteed stud RBs in the league are having trouble getting long term deals.

Bush is a great talent, but RBs are a product of the scheme and blocking. Look at GB, they got down to their 5th or 6th RB, and they still put up good yds and scored TDs. Look at DEN even closer, almost anybody can get 1000 yds in that system.

Bush is a small back, he will need a little help from a bigger back that can run between the tackles, maybe a Davis/Bush combo would work, but they still need O-Line help.

Young would fit nicely in his home town, would sell a bunch of tickets too. They have reasons to take Bush or Young, but the smarter move is to trade it for 3 or 4 other picks.

Take Bush. They could use him like A. Randal El and put him into the slot on certain downs while still allowing him to split carriers with D. Davis.
It's bad to trade Davis because you have zero guarantee that Bush can take an NFL beating while Davis has shown himself and everyone could use 2 RB's.

Taking a Tackle would be understandable but they could still land one in the early 2nd.

If they decide to trade the pick for some extra this year then they could take a T in the 1st and grab LenDale White in the late 1st--early 2nd.
It's a reach to take him before the 20th pick tho.

You would have to take Bush, because Carr isn't a bad quarterback. So if they choose another one, then they aren't really gaining anything. If they take Bush, they would have a good quarterback and a very good running back. It would be very stupid of them to choose either Lienart or Young.

Trade down. There is nothing wrong with David Carr, so you don’t need to take a QB. I’m not sold yet on Bush, as I don’t think he is tough enough to play in the pros.

The Texans problem is they aren’t talented enough at some of the non “skilled” positions. They need help on the O line, and the D needs to be strengthened.
